Ceremonial Swearing In for FLETC Director Benjamine C. Huffman
GLYNCO, GA - On October 5, 2023, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) observed the Ceremonial Swearing in of FLETC Director Benjamine C. Huffman at Building 912.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas provided virtual remarks expressing his confidence in the newly appointed Director of FLETC.
“FLETC is especially privileged to have had Thomas Walters as its director for so many years and to now have Carry Huffman as its director to succeed Tom. We are speaking of two individuals that embody the very, very best, not only of the law enforcement profession, but of public service itself,” expressed Secretary Mayorkas. “My thanks to you both. I recognize you both, and I am so excited for the future of FLETC, and so proud of its path.”
Distinguished guests, including current and former DHS senior officials were in attendance to witness Director Huffman’s recommitment to the Constitution. Nearly four decades ago, Huffman swore his first oath as a public servant here at FLETC-Glynco. Now, Huffman is the seventh named Director since FLETC’s inception in 1970.
“I am honored to be here with you today. And I am humbled to receive the trust and confidence of DHS Secretary Mayorkas to lead the men and women of such an extraordinary organization – the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers,” said Director Huffman. “As your director, it is my responsibility and promise to lead with integrity, take care of you, continue to advance FLETC, and always be transparent, even in difficult situations. Together, we will continue to ensure frontline personnel are armed with the tools, resources, and skills they need to be prepared in these everchanging environments.”
The Oath of Office is an important ceremonial gesture, recognizing the official start to one’s term in office. During the ceremony, DHS Deputy Under Secretary for Management Randolph D. Alles administered the Oath of Office to Director Huffman, as many gathered to watch Huffman make a public commitment to the duties, responsibilities, and obligations associated with the position of Director for the FLETC enterprise.
An agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FLETC provides basic and career-long training to law enforcement professionals to help them fulfill their responsibilities safely and proficiently. Through strategic partnerships, FLETC prepares the federal law enforcement community to safeguard the American people, property, and institutions.
