GLYNCO, Ga. - The Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) hosted the 21st Department of Homeland Security Leadership Academy (DHSLA) session from January 6 to 16, 2025. This prestigious program gathers senior law enforcement executives and command-level staff nationwide for a rigorous two-week crisis leadership and resilience curriculum.
“The training provided at the DHSLA was truly exceptional. The knowledge and experience shared by not only the expert instructors but also fellow attendees were second to none. I was able to expand my professional abilities and my network of dedicated peers in our profession. It was an experience that inspired me to continue leading with purpose and confidence,” stated Chief Amy Bonney from the Prescott Arizona Police Department and attendee at this year’s DHSLA.
The DHSLA is renowned for its interactive and thought-provoking sessions, which promote collaboration and encourage innovative problem-solving among law enforcement leaders. Through group activities and immersive learning experiences, participants gain the necessary skills to navigate the complexities and challenges of contemporary policing with resilience and adaptability.
The DHSLA's origins date back to 2012, when discussions began about needing a specialized academy dedicated to homeland security leadership. The first class was held in 2015 at FLETC's Glynco headquarters, and since then, the academy has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of state and local law enforcement leaders.
Under the guidance of FLETC Director Benjamine C. Huffman and with the dedicated efforts of the FLETC staff, the DHSLA has continually adapted to meet the evolving challenges in homeland security.
"DHS and FLETC are committed to ensuring that each DHSLA session remains aligned with the latest trends affecting law enforcement leadership and public safety professionals both nationally and internationally, achieved through solid relationships with DHSLA alums and state, local, and Tribal law enforcement and fire/EMS executives nationwide. These connections provide access to real-time lessons learned from various crisis scenarios, enabling FLETC to deliver timely and relevant training. The DHSLA exemplifies the importance of cultivating mutually beneficial relationships across all branches of public safety," stated Deputy Director Paul E. Baker.
Federal personnel should contact their agency training officer(s) to register for a future course. State, local, and tribal officers requesting training should register online. If organizational support is required or you have additional needs, please contact FLETC Admissions at (912) 267-3447. International (non-US) personnel should email FLETC-intlrqst@fletc.dhs.gov.
