FLETC Held Virtual Human Trafficking Investigations Symposium
Glynco, GA – Last week, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) successfully concluded its groundbreaking Human Trafficking Investigations Symposium, a virtual event aimed at educating and empowering the law enforcement community in the fight against human trafficking.
From April 9th to 11th, 2024, law enforcement professionals from across the nation gathered online for this comprehensive symposium. The event provided attendees with invaluable insights into investigative techniques and equipped them with the necessary tools to address trauma-based encounters effectively.
One of the highlights of the symposium was the participation of lived experience experts in a moderator-led discussion. Their firsthand perspectives added depth and authenticity to the conversations, enriching the learning experience for all participants.
The symposium covered a wide range of topics essential to combating human trafficking, including human trafficking case studies, disrupting sex trafficking networks, trauma-informed encounters, and using data to disrupt illicit massage networks. Renowned institutions such as the University of Alabama, the University of Nebraska, and the University of South Florida contributed their expertise to the event.
Furthermore, attendees gained valuable insights into financial and cyber techniques crucial for investigating human trafficking cases. The symposium also featured a panel discussion on human trafficking investigative techniques, providing attendees with practical strategies for successful outcomes.
One of the primary objectives of the symposium was to increase overall awareness of human trafficking, provide a framework for capacity building, and enhance the success rate of human trafficking investigations. By bringing together experts, practitioners, and lived experience voices, FLETC has taken a significant step towards achieving this goal.
The symposium, which ran from 12:00 PM to 4:30 PM (EDT) each day, offered this vital training at no cost to participants, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of law enforcement professionals interested in combating human trafficking.
FLETC extends its gratitude to all participants, speakers, and partners who contributed to the success of the Human Trafficking Investigations Symposium. Together, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of victims and survivors of human trafficking.
A component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FLETC provides career-long training to law enforcement professionals to help them fulfill their responsibilities safely and proficiently. Through strategic partnerships, FLETC prepares the federal, state, and local law enforcement community to safeguard America’s people, property, and institutions.
